Researchers have constructed a tiny butterfly-shaped optical resonator to enhance the sensitivity of ultrafast measurements of electron beam pulses. They discovered that the enhancement permits much less intense electrical fields for use in materials science experiments, which may also help in characterization of structural dynamics of atoms within the samples.
