
The electoral watchdog’s assertion was in reply to a letter by President Dr Arif Alvi, who had requested the ECP to suggest dates for holding basic elections within the nation.
The president’s letter to the ECP said that underneath Article 48(5)(A) and Article 224(2) of the Structure, the president needed to appoint a date, not later than 90 days from the date of dissolution of the Nationwide Meeting, for holding basic elections.
President Alvi had sought the dates for holding elections after he dissolved the Nationwide Meeting (NA) on Prime Minister Imran Khan’s recommendation following the dismissal of a no-trust movement towards the premier by NA Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
The Supreme Courtroom is anticipated to challenge a ruling on the legality of those measures tonight as the opportunity of early elections looms.
In its reply, the ECP stated it was an ” impartial [and] constitutional entity, entrusted with the sacred responsibility of organising and conducting elections when it comes to Article 218(3) of the Structure and to make such preparations and are crucial to make sure that the election is performed truthfully, justly, pretty and in accordance with regulation, and that corrupt practices are guarded towards”.
It additionally requested the president to schedule conferences with the ECP for additional deliberations on holding elections.
