Greenbelts are efficient at slowing city sprawl

Researchers argue that greenbelts nearly all the time work in curbing sprawl, notably in bigger cities. It appears to be like at 60 cities in Europe, half of them with a greenbelt, half with out, and makes use of open-source knowledge to check modifications in and ranges of city sprawl between 2006 and 2015. ‘We observed decreases in city sprawl in 27 of the 30 cities that had greenbelts, so we are able to say that total, greenbelts are very efficient,’ says the research’s lead creator, Parnian Pourtaherian, MSc 21. Jochen Jaeger, an affiliate professor of geography, planning and atmosphere within the School of Arts and Science, co-authored the paper.
