That’s why, final month, the TUC launched our new Commerce Unions for Trans Rights community. We’re bringing collectively the commerce union motion to organise and discount for trans rights within the office – and past.

We all know that union reps are sometimes the primary individual staff flip to about bullying, harassment and discrimination.

We’re happy with the many years of expertise that reps have in supporting and representing girls staff, Black staff, disabled staff and LGBT+ staff.

We wish to make sure that each rep is aware of the ways in which transphobia performs out at work – and are able to step up and assist their trans and non-binary members and colleagues too.  

The community will again our reps to assist our trans members. It should assist trans staff to have a voice in our motion. And it’ll assist reps, trans staff and allies discount for the office insurance policies that construct inclusive cultures and cease transphobic harassment and discrimination earlier than it begins.

We’re proud to face in opposition to transphobia at work – as unions have stood for many years in opposition to the racism, sexism, ablism and homophobia that holds working folks down.

At work and in wider society, there are too many voices weaponising the experiences of the 0.2% of the inhabitants who’re trans or non-binary in pursuit of an agenda that seeks to undermine everybody’s rights.
